Want to Host a Car Wash ? Get Involved and Have Fun!!

From Carli and Evan Kander…queue Car Wash Song!

“We are hoping to find people who are willing to host a car wash at their house on any available day this summer. If you are able to do so, you can choose a day (generally Saturdays and Sundays work best). You will need to provide car wash supplies. We will send you a copy of a flyer that you could hand out to family, friends, and neighbors. The cost for car washes will be donations only. The event is more fun when a lot of people help out at each car wash.

Feel free to get creative with other possible ways to raise money. For example, you may have younger siblings, cousins, or neighbors who could have a lemonade stand for donations. We greatly appreciate anyone who is willing to help out and raise money for a great cause. Please pass this on to anyone that you think would be interested in participating”.

Any questions can be directed to info@jsm.org.

The Jessica Shayne Magid Bowl-a-rama for Leukemia Research

‘Spare’ us your excuse, Come ‘Strike-out Leukemia’

Mt. Prospect, IL – Sunday, July 19th will not be another lazy summer Sunday for the members of the Jessica Shayne Magid Chapter of the Leukemia Research Foundation. That day over 100 volunteers will be hosting their fifth annual fund raising event to benefit Leukemia Research.

Bring your whole family out to this year’s event, a Bowl-a-rama, to be held at the Brunswick Lanes in Mt. Prospect on Sunday July 19th. Participants will have three different ‘flights’ to choose from: 2 family friendly flights that start at 2:30pm and 4:45pm or the Pro Flight starting at 3:00pm for the more serious kingpin. Bowling packages start at just $15 and include food and beverage and all the bowling essentials. Other festivities that day will include a carnival with games and prizes for the kids and a silent auction for the adults.

A 100% volunteer group, the chapter over the last four years major fund raising event was an annual golf event held in Wheeling. In addition to the golf outing that day, they coordinated car washes and silent and live auctions. All their hard work in the past has paid off as they have raised over $100,000 to cure Leukemia!

The organizers were very concerned about the economy and their ability to continue to help fight leukemia. They have completely revamped their major event to be both more family and economy friendly.

With summer having officially started, all should mark their calendars for July 19th for a fun action packed day. The best part about it is your family is sure to have a great time at a reasonable price all while helping to find a cure for Leukemia. Leukemia Research Foundation - Your Support Helps Fight Blood Cancers

Leukemia Research FoundationLet’s take a look at how your donations have a positive impact in fighting blood cancers! Your bowling registration fee and/or your sponsorship dollars go toward the Leukemia Research Foundation and specifically the Jessica Shayne Magid “Chai” Chapter, one of 20+ chapters dedicated to raising money to providing educational resources as well as patient and family emotional support and financial resources to those inflicted with blood cancers.  Your donations support research that enables investigators to complete studies around this world to ultimately find a cure for blood cancers.

Lives are both served and saved with your donations.  Thank you in advance for your support! Your participation in our bowling event, by being a sponsor or a bowler, makes a huge difference in the lives of those inflicted with blood cancers.

I wanted to provide a statistic from the LRF site that exemplifies our advances in research in the last century:

”Due to advances in treatment, there has been a dramatic improvement in survival for people with  acute lymphocytic leukemia, from a 5-year relative survival rate of 38% in the mid-1970s to 65% in the late 1990s. Survival rates for children with acute lymphocytic leukemia have increased from 53% to 87% over the same time period”

Every penny counts to continue advances in the treatment of blood cancers and ultimately a cure to eradicate these diseases.
