This year’s kickoff to Jessica’s Car Wash for a Cure was an amazing success. Enjoy this short multimedia show with videos and photos. Thanks to everyone involved.
For 2010, the Jessica Shayne Magid “Chai” Chapter of the Leukemia Research Foundation is hard at work with our new fundraising project – Jessica’s Car Wash for a Cure. Please join us in our 2010 fundraising effort by being a “captain” and hosting your own neighborhood car wash! Read below for more details.
History about Jessica and our Chapter:
Our Chapter began its fundraising efforts in 2005 – the 20th anniversary of Jessica’s death. Click here for a biography of Jessica . For the first four years we conducted a golf tournament and then in 2009 for our 5th year, due to the downturned economy, we conducted a bowling event. In these 5 years we have raised over $100,000.00 in our attempt to fund the research which will one day discover a cure for this dreaded disease. To get an idea of the services offered by the Leukemia Research Foundation please visit www.leukemia-research.org.
The Neighborhood Car Wash Concept:
As part of our fund raising efforts over these past years, we have held what we termed “neighborhood car washes” which were run in 4 different residential driveways. These car washes were conducted by high school and college age young adults (with the help of their parents as well) and raised $300 to $1,000 per location. Based on that success we have decided for 2010 to take this concept nationwide and we will be holding Car Washes during the Spring, Summer and Fall months of 2010.
Details of Hosting Your Own Car Wash:
1. Choose a day to host a 3-4 hour car wash with weekends obviously being preferred.
2. We will provide the flyers to use; you only need to provide the car wash supplies.
3. There are no meetings to attend and the time committment to host this event is minimal!
4. This will be a “Donation Only” car wash. Based on our experience by offering to wash cars for no set price we received donations from $5.00 to $100.00 with the average donation being $15.00 to $20.00. It is much easier to simply ask for a donation than to set a “car wash fee”.
We hope you join in the fun this year and host a Jessica Shayne Magid Car Wash for a Cure in your neighborhood! Please e-mail info@jsmcure.org if you are interested!

It’s official!! The 2010 Jessica Shayne Magid “Chai” Chapter has kicked-off its 2010 fundraiser. This year, it is not a golf tournament, it’s not a bowl-a-rama, but this year, it is JESSICA’S CAR WASH(ES) FOR A CURE!!
